COVID-19 is a global pandemic that has fundamentally changed the way we live our lives. It’ll likely be years before we get back to normal, and it’s likely that our new way of life will never be the same pre-COVID. There is still no vaccine for the very contagious COVID-19 and there are still new cases and new deaths daily.
One way we can (and are) fighting the disease is contact tracing. A contact tracer is an individual who on behalf of a company or a government entity performs outreach to identify and track the spread of the disease. Contact tracers are tasked with following up with both healthy and sick individuals to check on their status. Contact tracers are also interested in the interactions with others that sick individuals have had. Piecing this information together allows us to stay one step ahead of COVID-19 by helping those sick remain quarantined, to get help if needed, and to inform those that may have been unknowingly exposed that they are at risk.
We all want to get back to somewhat of a ‘normal’ and contact tracers provide a necessary service to help us accomplish that. States like New York, Rhode Island and large businesses are finding that the only way to fight COVID-19 right now is to track and isolate it.
